Based on the high prices I've seen for 2022 models it appears buyers might be showing some resistance to the new, 4-cyl models. My pricing and availability seems to indicate the 2022's are still in strong demand, likely due to it's V-6 engine. I really love the new look, but not sure I am ready for a 4-cylinder car....maybe others aren't either? Of course, this could also be skewed by the high demand for the RX and not enough being made. Any thoughts?

It seems like most everyone is moving to 4 cylinders nowadays, take a look at the Germans for example, and they're not giving them away either!

If you like anything in this category with a larger engine (or electric) then the price goes up.
Economics? Wants? It's a balancing act today given the costs, sure, like normal, but, ...

If people are hesitant on the 2023 models then that helps us that wants them. I have no issues with the 4-cylinder. The amount of power car companies can get out of them these days is more than plenty.

Which model are you planning on getting? A 2022 or 2023?

Hey @BrentB welcome to the forum! Yeah it's been wild to see how quickly the germans have shrunken their engine sizes, Mercedes in particular stands out to me with the C63. Which RX model are you interested in getting?

Hey @BrentB welcome to the forum! Yeah it's been wild to see how quickly the germans have shrunken their engine sizes, Mercedes in particular stands out to me with the C63. Which RX model are you interested in getting?
We've ordered the 500HF-Sport3.

Not crazy about the colour choice on that trim, though.

Fortunately these smaller engines still have reasonable torque which is what those bigger displacement engines really had to offer. Now cars come with 4 cylinder engines with specs that easily rival V6 and Inline 6 engines.

Fortunately these smaller engines still have reasonable torque which is what those bigger displacement engines really had to offer. Now cars come with 4 cylinder engines with specs that easily rival V6 and Inline 6 engines.
The 4 pot engines have good numbers, but I'm not too sure durability and longevity is on their side. That, we'll have to see.

Brent, I really am on the fence. Since I totaled my 2022 I have been struggling with this. Currently vacationing in Australia, I have ridden in several hybrid Ubers (all Toyota) and am fascinated by the quietness -not hearing an engine sound is unique to my ears. 🙃. I mean… it just seems like some kind of engine noise is “normal” to these old ears and I wonder if I’ll miss hearing that. But When I hear Totota’s electric model sales are already at 25% and growing, one can clearly see where this is going.

I have a steady stream of rss feeds coming into my Outlook account to help me sort through the noise, and assist me in finding a new vehicle.

Although, we've had great success with the Toyota products, I'm not married to them, but only to the reliability.

We considered the Hs, the PHEV as well as the EVs. The range of the PHEVs and EVs are getting better, but I've ruled out the PHEVs (look up FORM) to see why which is only part of why we didn't persue those.
There isn't enough EV charging stations for me to feel comfortable, and the prices are not great either.

That Lexus RX are pricey puppies, but we know that is a more reliable choice, and we like our luxury goodies. For us, the distance to the dealer is another strong consideration. Between the 2 Lexus vehicles, we had to go to the dealer once for an oil line recall on the ES350.
I like to change our vehicles every 10 years or so. We changed up the ES350 only due to the size and equipment I was carrying at the time.

For X, the Lexus dealer is a 3 hour drive away to take care of any issues. I'm more comfortable with that choice then the 1 1/2 hour drive to a German dealership.

In January of this year, I traded my 22 RX 450h for a 23 RX 350h. The redesign and the new touchscreen interface are what pushed me over the edge. I actually feel my 23 is peppier than the 22. I haven't felt a loss in power, and the increase in MPG is always nice too. I've only put 300 miles on the car, but I'm averaging 34 mpg. My 22 with 6,500 miles on it when I traded; it was averaging 30. I believe I will be averaging 36 after I break it in. So far, very happy with the trade.

Thanks for the info, Ted. I think you were fortunate to find a hybrid so quickly? Any recommendations on where to locate one in your area?...I'm in Dallas.

I would think there are more in Dallas than in Little Rock. I lucked into mine. I was taking my 22 in for service on 1/25/23 and decided to hang out and browse the new car inventory. I ended up talking to the sales manager, who had ordered one for a friend in caviar with peppercorn, but the car came in with macadamia. His friend decided to wait for the peppercorn, and I asked to see the car. It is a luxury model with everything I had wanted, so I ended up trading that day. His buddy came in the next day having changed his mind and wanted the car, but he was a day late and a dollar short..... as it were. It really was just a stroke of luck.
